Erected in 1834, this former passenger Pier, designed and built by William Tierney Clark, is the oldest cast iron pier in the world and one of the most important historic structures in Gravesend.
Originally, the main point of embarkation for passenger steamers to and from London, the Pier declined with the coming of the railway.
Today, lovingly restored, it is the home to Riva Waterside Bar & Restaurant .
All is now in place to restore Town Pier to its traditional role as a 'gateway' to the town of Gravesend from the River Thames. A new pontoon has been installed providing access for a range of river craft, barges and paddle steamers. Sailing trips can be booked through the Summer Months at Gravesend Visitor Centre.
Take a stroll on the Pier out over the river or gently unwind with a leisurely meal or drink in the waterside bar and restaurant. You can also sail up and down the River Thames from the newly installed pontoon, on board barges or paddle steamers.
