Emmaus Dover invites you to an exclusive talk with Terry Waite CBE and Erwin James, Editor in Chief of Inside Time Magazine, as they share their experiences of captivity.
Terry Waite CBE, a British humanitarian, spent many years as a negotiator for hostages. In 1987, he was captured in Beirut and remained in captivity for 1,763 days. Terry believes his experience in captivity gave him a great insight into the misery, isolation, fear, and despair that many homeless people go through.
Erwin James found himself homeless and began a life of crime which eventually led to him being given a prison sentence of 25 years. During that time, he discovered he had a gift for writing and became a columnist for The Guardian. He is now editor in chief of Inside Time, a newspaper distributed throughout the British prison system.
This unique conversation with Terry and Erwin will compare their experiences and discuss prison reform and homelessness. The one-off exclusive event will help raise much needed funds for the Dover based homelessness charity, who will celebrate 25th years of supporting men and women from across East Kent in 2020.
