The Magic and Mystery of Trees - Workshop

28th May 2022

Discover how trees communicate and warn each other of predators

Discover how trees communicate and warn each other of predators, how they nurture their networks, record the past, and anticipate the future to ensure their survival. There's so much more to trees than meets the eye. Delve into the amazing natural science of trees. From the highest branch all the way down to the complex "wood wide web" of roots, every part of a tree plays an important role. Not only in its own growth, but that the ecosystem of the whole forest or woodland. Did you know that trees take care of each other and that whole forests are connected?

You will learn unbe-leaf-able tree facts, see extraordinary trees and the wildlife that call them home. Find out what trees do for us and how we are damaging them with pollution and deforestation. You'll even find out how you can help with instructions on how to plant your very own tree!

The workshop is from 10am – 1pm, with a short tea break mid-way. Afterwards, from 1.00-2.00pm, you are invited to stay on for lunch by the pond for more tree chat with Chris and your fellow particiants. LUNCH - Bring your own, or order a Kento Bento Lunch Box for £6.50.

The Wasted Kitchen Kento Bento is a selection of salads and dips that lead with seasonal, local and excess produce. Suitable for vegetarians (for other dietary options please contact us).

Workshop Facilitator - Chris Williams from Edibleculture Chris Williams grew up in Faversham and has lived in Faversham since, currently living in the centre of town. Chris has always had a great interest in local issues and loves being part of the community, working with young people and is an active environmental campaigner. Chris went to the University of Greenwich studying Horticulture which has shaped his career since, including working at Brogdale (The National Fruit Collection) for many years, where he was involved in pruning, planting, and growing fruit trees. Chris is now running his own business, Edibleculture, based in Faversham, which is a specialist horticulture business, growing a large range of edible plants and championing plastic, peat, and pesticide free selling. Education, environmental issues and the supporting of local businesses has always been an integral part of his working life and business.
