Battle of Medway 2017

From fire to friendship...

This summer, Medway will mark the 350th anniversary of the Battle of Medway, a largley unknown battle that played a huge role in British and Dutch naval history.

In June, come and join in with the events, exhibitions and cultural activities taking place between Thursday 8th June and Saturday 17th June, including a new permanent exhibition at Upnor Castle and a spectacular festival finale with a pageant on the River Medway that is likely to attract thousands of people.

The programme is a fitting commemoration of a huge naval event that shaped British and world history. Given those facts it is surprising that so many people know so little about this significant battle in Kent. Find out more about the history of the Battle of Medway with our guide to the events of 350 years ago and start planning your next trip to Medway.

We've put together a sample itinerary to inspire you and you'll find just a taste of  the events taking place listed below.
