Self-catering breaks in Kent

Sophie Hewitt
10th April 2021

The moment we have been waiting for is here, after months of the same four walls, we can finally start planning the short breaks we’ve been dreaming of. New views, new walks and a new setting – it’s amazing what a getaway can do, whether you choose a coastal cottage, or a castle keep retreat. With so many fantastic settings and wonderful locations, Kent is perfect for a weekend break, so we’re sharing some our favourite self-catering cottages where you can relax and finally treat yourself – after all, it’s been a tough year.

Please always check the accommodation provider's own website for their latest guidelines and Covid-19 policies. Please follow the latest government guidelines on social distancing.

Quex Livery Glamping Holidays

After months of being inside, the thought of a glamping trip in the countryside is pure bliss. Set within the grounds of Quex Park, Quex Livery Glamping offers the chance to stay in a bell tent with your very own firepit, comfy bedding, electricity and even a choice of homemade cake. Set in 25 acres of countryside, we wouldn’t blame you if you chose not to leave, but The Isle of Thanet’s blue-flag awarded beaches are just up the road for the perfect seaside day out.

The Chapel

Just outside of Ramsgate, The Chapel in Manston Village is the ultimate luxury retreat this summer. The 40 foot sitting room houses squashy sofas, a full size pool table and even a baby grand, and with three en-suite bedrooms (one of which has a four poster bed), it’s the perfect place for a family getaway. While here make the most of being down the road from Ramsgate’s riviera vibes, with plenty of cafés, bars and al-fresco dining to enjoy.

Fagin’s Den

Resting in Broadstairs, Dickens’ favourite seaside setting, Fagin’s Den honours the author and one of his most iconic works. Step through the doors of the cottage and be transported to Dickensian times, with Victorian costumes to don, games to play, information about Dickens’ love of Broadstairs, and even a treasure hunt to find Fagin’s secret stash of gold! Trust us, spend a weekend here and you’ll be wanting more!

Golden Leas

If you feel like you want to start recouping a year of lost memories, we hear you! Based on the shores of the beautiful Isle of Sheppey with its nature reserve and gorgeous sandy beaches, Golden Leas holiday homes offer a real family retreat. Complete with an outdoor heated swimming pool, play area and adventure playground, owning a Golden Leas holiday home is the ultimate way to enjoy the home from home experience in beautiful surroundings. And what’s more, as they’re dog-friendly, the whole family can escape for a weekend break.

Leeds Castle

The first short break in over a year has got to be pretty spectacular, so what could be more spectacular than staying in the grounds of lovely Leeds Castle? Whether you choose the spacious Keeper’s House with its beams, inglenook, aga and exposed brickwork or the wisteria-covered Battel Hall’s sumptuous drawing rooms and oak-panelled dining room (if ever there was an excuse to dress for dinner, this is it), bookings before the end of June will receive a lower occupancy discount, so you and your family can enjoy all that space at a lower rate. But if you fancy a cosy hideaway for two, it’s got to be Weir Cottage with its exposed beams, king-sized bed and firepit. And, because we know we’re not the only ones who gained a four-legged friend this year, we’re pleased to say it’s dog-friendly too.

Tuggers

This romantic retreat in Kingsdown is a coastal idyll, with log burner, snug and even a garden room to choose from in the evening (that’s a lot of restful spots to sit and read). The cottage has all the charm of a character property, with wood panelling and even its very own wooden boat bow outside! What’s more, this cute cottage sits on a shingle road which leads you straight onto the beach, so all you need to do is keep your fingers crossed for good swimming weather! Oh, and did we mention, this little retreat is also fido-friendly so you won’t need to worry about those puppy-dog eyes when you go away.

The Pilot’s House

200 years old and with all that cottage charm, Pilot’s House is a welcome escape from city living. Just a pebble’s throw from the beach in Deal and a minute’s walk from the vibrant town centre, this gorgeous little cottage is an ideal seaside escape for four. Whitewashed walls, original floorboards and a suntrap of a courtyard garden, after a couple of days here, you’ll have forgotten all about the stresses of zoom calls and home haircuts.

Kent and Sussex Cottages

Cosy cottages for couples, coastal escapes and family friendly cottages – Kent and Sussex Cottages has them all. Whether you’re looking to escape from it all with a rural cottage in the Kent countryside, or fancy soaking up that sun and sea air on the coast, with more than 350 cottages across Kent, you’re sure to find that perfect weekend break you’ve been dreaming of. Plus with £100 off your booking on any breaks which finish on or before 28th May, they're giving you the perfect excuse to book your getaway. This offer ends at midnight 16th April 2021, so don’t delay.

Romney Marsh Shepherds Huts

If the view from your window the last few months has been nothing but rooftops and pavements, the wide skies of Romney Marsh are the perfect antidote. Switch off and unwind in one of these bespoke shepherds huts complete with kitchen, Romney Marsh lanolin toiletries and snuggly Romney sheep fleeces. Roast marshmallows over the firepit, read, take strolls through the marsh and cosy up on your very own farm staycation.

Coldblow Farm

High up on the top of the North Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the Cottages at Coldblow Farm make for a walker’s dream vacation. With footpaths along the North Downs Way right on the doorstep, it’s safe to say the views from the 32 acre farm are pretty spectacular. Whether you choose the three bedroom Flint Barn or the four bedroom Flint Cottage, it will be the perfect break to reconnect with the family.

Bloom Stays

With over 50 beachside cottages and country retreats, Bloom Stays have some fantastic cottages to choose from. Whether you pick the romantic bolthole of The Granary in Canterbury, the endless views of the Fog Signal in Dungeness, or Honeywood Lodge in Canterbury with its very own private swimming pool(!), we can guarantee a stay at one of these cottages will make up for lost time.
